Pour Your Own Drink

servir el agua

Little kids want to do it themselves, and pouring is one of the first real jobs they can own. A small pitcher, a tray and a little water is all it takes.

From the Kitchen and Thanks theme · practical life · 5-minute prep · free in the Starter Kit

You need

A small, light pitcher they can hold with two hands, a cup, a big bowl, a tray, and a small sponge or cloth.

Make it yours

Pour for a doll's tea party, fill a toy truck's "tank," or water a dinosaur's swamp.

Safety: water or milk only, never hot drinks. Stay close, and keep a towel nearby.

Three levels tres niveles

Begin

On a tray, pour a little water from a small pitcher into a big bowl. Then pour it back.

Build

Pour water from the pitcher into a cup on the tray. Wipe the drips with a small sponge or cloth.

Stretch

Pour their own drink at snack and at meals, and pour for a guest: "Would you like some water?" Wipe up any spill on their own.

Move up when
they stop pouring before the cup overflows. That's the sign, not their age.
Step back when
it's a flood. Put just a little water in the pitcher and try again tomorrow.

Ages are a loose guide. Start at Begin if you're not sure, and follow your child.

Say it in Spanish en español

Say the word, point, and let your child point too. You don't need to speak Spanish.
